This air fryer was gifted to me a couple weeks ago. Since then, I’ve become obsessed. I didn’t expect to love it this much! Please share your favourite recipes/things to air fry in the comments!
In this episode of What I Ate Wednesday, I made a much more intricate bowl of congee than usual with Five Spice Tofu. It’s made with the marinade from my Jackfruit Bao recipe from last month. And it’s super bomb and you should try it.
Then I try a couple other things in my new air fryer. One pretty healthy air fryer recipe. The other, not so much.

*Double the marinade except for the oil for 350g of extra firm tofu*

**Five Spice Tofu**
See Jackfruit Bao recipe for the marinade. Double the amounts except for the oil.
1 12oz (350g) block extra firm tofu
Crumble tofu. Squeeze dry. Add marinade ingredients, starting with the dry stuff, mix, then the wet stuff.
It’s best if you let that marinate a few minutes. A half hour would be awesome, but not super necessary.
Air fry at 400°F or 205°C for 20 minutes; shake halfway.
**Tangy Air Fryer Kale Chips**
1 bunch kale, thick stems trimmed, washed + dried (about 6 cups)
1 tablespoon oil
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
This recipe is very salty and tangy. Next time I would probably reduce both lemon and salt by half. You do what YOU want!
Massage kale with oil. Add other ingredients. Massage lightly to distribute the seasonings.
Air fry in batches directly in the basket at 360°F/180°C 4 – 5 minutes. It’s best if you cook them in a single layer; no need to shake and the results are super consistent. But if you fill up the basket halfway, that’s okay too. You will have to shake it at 2-3 minutes in.
**Vegan Tater Tot Nachos**
Serves 1 – 2
Crispy AF Air Fryer Tater Tots:
2 cups frozen tater tots (200g)
Air fry at 400°F or 205°C for 20 minutes or until desired crispiness is reached. Shake halfway through cooking. While they are cooking, prepare the Ground Round.
Transfer to container/basket lined with paper towel.
Note: I have seen only 14 minutes recommended for cooking frozen tater tots in an air fryer so this may be ok for some people. However, I want my tater tots to be crispy AF so I cook for the full 20 minutes.
While the tater tots are cooking, make Hot For Food’s Nacho Cheese recipe (or your choice of nacho sauce; I’m not the boss of you!)

If you have some ground round or beans, heat that up too!
Grab your salsa, chop up scallions and cilantro, and anything else you want.
Layer your toppings on the crispy tater tots as you see fit and enjoy!
